Launched in 2010, Colossal is one of the highest trafficked art and culture websites in the world reaching a monthly audience of 3-5 million visitors. Our online gift shop, opened in 2013, ships thousands of orders annually to customers around the globe. We specialize in unique design objects, art prints, toys, and other fun and unusual gadgets connecting to our goal of carrying exceptionally fun things for creative people. The Colossal Shop is primarily an online venture with editorial offices, warehouse, and fulfillment split in a fun office space in Chicago's Ravenswood neighborhood.
This is a part-time, hourly internship providing an opportunity to contribute to a growing creative and user-focused brand. A core part of the position will be helping with shipping and fulfillment for our e-commerce store, The Colossal Shop. Additional tasks will be varied to develop a variety of skill sets including customer service, order fulfillment, and web maintenance, as well as some marketing, design, and/or photography work as aligned with the intern’s abilities and interests.
We are looking for a current college/university student or recent graduate with a proactive, independent work ethic and enthusiastic interest in the realms of e-commerce, art and design, and publishing. The selected candidate will work with our E-commerce Operations Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
— Fielding daily customer service requests in an exceedingly helpful and timely manner
— Packing and shipping orders
— Shelving new inventory & conducting monthly inventory audits
— Integrating content with the Colossal blog
— Creating content for social media accounts
— Contributing to larger projects via research, data entry, light editorial work, and photo editing.
— Supporting our ecommerce operation using Shopify, Wordpress, MailChimp, HelpScout, and ShipStation
— Current college student
— Enthusiastic interest in the arts, ecommerce, publishing, and/or design
— Readiness to contribute ideas and solutions to our small team
— Ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic, creative environment
— Extremely self-motivated, organized, and disciplined with a strong willingness to learn. Ability to work independently for long periods
— A strong eye and interest in design, color, and layout
— Comfort in photographing products in our studio and the ability to color correct & crop images in Photoshop; ability to make simple banner ads or other special web graphics
— Affinity for creating marketing copy and social media content
— Basic familiarity with HTML and CSS
Hours & Location
This is a part-time paid internship in Chicago's Ravenswood neighborhood. Hours are for 3-4 hours a day every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, or an equivalent amount of time according to the selected candidate's availability. This position is open to current college/university students or recent graduates, and college credit may be arranged if desired. Must be available to continue on-site over the summer break. Position to start immediately.
